Innovation in

Exhibit Design.

The plan would be to move the elephants to excellent existing zoos that can accommodate more animals. We would also move family groups to wildlife reserves in or outside Africa, if safe to do so.

Elephant-In-Red would look at options for new builds, and create concept designs and modifications to add to the master plans for these new areas. They would assist in planning full management programmes. We would integrate non-contact care.

One of our partner Chinese zoos has suggested increasing the facility size of their existing elephant zone. This was sponsored by Bosch Siemens and designed with Gerry and Carin (see www.gwzoodesign.org).

The zoo plans to maximize the land around the elephant zone to create the space for the new group.

In all the areas we design we keep existing trees or move them.

We use water walls and reed bed systems in our designs. This has a three-fold effect;

  • They are aesthetically pleasing,

  • They reduce the noise of the visiting public, reducing animal stress,

  • They promote an educational focus on how to use natural resources sustainably.

Water recycling systems will be used with underground tanks and integrated solar power systems. We hope to attract sponsors into this aspect of the project by inviting input from water design companies with a focus on biological water systems.

We have an innovative design for solar systems and will be excited to incorporate this into the new areas.
